Car Maintenance Schedule
Every oil change interval
Most modern vehicles: 7,500–10,000 miles for full synthetic, following intelligent oil-life monitors when equipped.
Check or service:
- Oil and oil filter.
- Tire pressures.
- Tire wear and rotation.
- Belts and hoses inspection.
- All fluid levels.
- Wiper blades (replace if streaking).
- Lights (all functioning).
Every 30,000 miles
- Engine air filter.
- Cabin air filter (or every 15,000-20,000 miles).
- Brake fluid (some manufacturers).
- Tire alignment check if needed.
Every 60,000-100,000 miles
- Spark plugs (iridium typical 100,000; copper 30,000-50,000).
- Transmission fluid and filter (sealed transmissions: check manual).
- Coolant (varies; check date on label).
- Drive belt (inspection; replace if cracked).
Every 100,000-150,000 miles
- Coolant flush.
- Brake fluid (if not earlier).
- Timing belt (if equipped — see timing belt vs chain).
- Power steering fluid (if hydraulic).
Wear-item replacements (as needed)
- Tires: 50,000-70,000 miles typical.
- Brake pads: 30,000-70,000 miles (front), 50,000-100,000 miles (rear).
- Wiper blades: 6-12 months.
- Battery: 4-6 years.
- Headlight bulbs: 5-7 years (halogen).
Severe service intervals
Reduce intervals 20-30% for:
- Heavy towing.
- Frequent short trips.
- Sustained idle.
- Dusty environments.
- Extreme hot or cold climates.
Common myths
"Change oil every 3,000 miles"
Outdated. Modern synthetic oils last 7,500-10,000 miles. The 3,000-mile rule was promoted by quick-lube chains, not engine manufacturers.
"Premium fuel keeps engine cleaner"
False. Premium octane is for engines specified to use it. Using premium in a regular-octane engine wastes money without benefit.
"Modern cars don't need maintenance"
Reduced, not eliminated. The schedule is longer but still important. Skipping causes premature failure.

FAQ
How often should I really change my oil?
Modern synthetic oil: 7,500-10,000 miles. Follow your vehicle's intelligent oil-life monitor if equipped. Reduce to 5,000 miles for severe service (towing, dust, short trips).
